I. Janvey
& Sons, Inc. was founded in 1913 by Isaac Janvey as a bicycle shop.
A reputation of honesty and dependability was built. In 1932, Philip
Janvey expanded the business via the sale of maintenance cleaning
supplies, which he actually sold from a truck. Five years later,
they opened up a store, office, and warehouse at 215 Front Street
and Abraham Janvey joined them. This led to the formation of I.
Janvey & Sons, Inc. In 1949, Phil and Abe moved their flourishing
operation across the street to our current address and leased the
warehouse behind it. Bruce Janvey became a member of the firm in
1974. Phil Janvey retired in 1979 and Abe Janvey, who at 92 years
old worked daily until May of 2004 and passed away in September of
2004.
In 1989,
the business acquired all of the real estate that surrounded their
original building and that now comprises its current operation.
Today, I. Janvey & Sons, Inc. has a work force of 30 employees, a
35,000 sq. ft. warehouse and 12 vehicles available for distribution.
At the present time, the company services a geographical area that
covers the 5 boroughs of New York City, Suffolk, Nassau,
Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Orange counties.
Today, I.
Janvey & Sons, Inc. is the leading Jan-San distributor in the
tri-state area. The company is recognized nationally as one of the
largest independent, single location distributors in the USA. The
company is lead today by our President/CEO and third generation of
the Janvey family - Bruce H. Janvey.
